1. Start your first session
- Open LumoFocus and complete the introduction. The optional Focus Pro screen can be closed with the × button.
- On the focus home screen, choose a mode or preset. Pomodoro uses 25 minutes of focus and a 5-minute break; Short Focus uses 15 and 5 minutes. Long Focus uses 45 and 10 minutes and requires Pro.
- Optionally enter a task title, then use the start control. You do not need an account.
2. Focus, pause, and rest
Use the pause control during a session and resume when ready. To finish early, choose End Focus and confirm; ended sessions are recorded with their actual progress. On completion, choose Take a break or Focus again. During a break you can pause or skip it, then choose Start next round.
You can leave the app while the timer runs. iOS controls background execution and notification delivery; do not rely on it as a safety-critical alarm. If you reopen the app after time has passed, it reconciles the active timer state.
3. Customize your rhythm
Open Settings → Focus Presets or the preset selector on the focus screen. Custom focus duration ranges from 5 to 180 minutes, short breaks from 1 to 30 minutes, long breaks from 5 to 60 minutes, and the long-break interval from 2 to 8 rounds.
The free app supports a basic custom preset. Pro unlocks multiple custom presets and advanced break rules. Use the preset editor to name, save, select, or delete presets; locked controls show an upgrade prompt.
4. Ambient sounds and sleep timer
Open Settings → White Noise, or tap the music control during focus or rest. Select an available sound, control playback, and adjust volume. Lakeside, Forest, and Rain are available free. Other sounds marked Pro require an active entitlement.
The sound sleep timer offers Off, 15, 30, or 60 minutes. The 30- and 60-minute options require Pro. This timer stops sound playback; it is separate from your focus duration. Ambient audio can play in the background and may pause for interruptions such as calls. If sound is interrupted, check the audio output and resume playback.
5. History, task titles, and tags
Open session history from the app’s history entry to review saved sessions, then open a record to inspect or edit its task information or delete it. Free history displays your latest seven days. Pro unlocks full saved history, advanced search and filters, and task tags.
Pro users can create and assign tags, manage them in the record editor, and filter by tag, mode, completion status, or keyword. The seven-day free view does not erase older records. Data is stored on this device; there is no account or built-in cross-device sync.
6. Read your statistics
Use the statistics tab to review your focus activity. Free access includes today’s basic totals. Pro adds advanced trends, longer-range insights, heatmaps, tag analysis, and time-of-day views. Totals depend on saved records and the selected period; deleting a record changes the corresponding statistics.
7. Export CSV or PDF (Pro)
- Open history or statistics and choose the export action.
- Select CSV for spreadsheet data or PDF for a readable report.
- Select Current Results, Last 7 Days, or All History.
- Choose whether to include task titles and tags. Both are off by default.
- Tap Create & Share and choose a destination in the system share sheet.
An empty range cannot be exported. Files are generated locally; temporary files are removed after the share sheet closes. Saved and shared copies are separate from the app. Export is not an app backup and the app does not provide an import workflow.
8. Completion alerts and Live Activities
Open Settings → Completion Alerts, enable reminders, grant notification permission when prompted, and choose an alert sound. Reminders cover focus and break completion. If no alert appears, check iOS Settings → Notifications → LumoFocus, notification sounds, silent settings, and system Focus settings.
Use Settings → Live Activity to control timer display. If unavailable, check LumoFocus permissions in iOS Settings and whether the system allows Live Activities. Lock Screen and Dynamic Island presentation depend on your device and system settings.
9. Set up a system Focus
LumoFocus cannot directly turn an iOS Focus on or off. Open Settings → Focus Mode Setup for guidance. In Apple Shortcuts, create a personal automation for when LumoFocus is opened and add a Set Focus action for your chosen Focus. Configure the automation’s run behavior in Shortcuts. You may create a separate app-closed automation to turn Focus off.
These automations respond to opening or closing the app, not the focus timer’s start or completion. Review allowed notifications in your chosen system Focus if completion alerts are being silenced.
10. Appearance and language
Open Settings → Theme Appearance to choose an available theme and app icon. Items marked Pro require Pro access. Use Settings → Language to follow the system or select an app language. This website and manual are provided in English.
11. Focus Pro purchases
Open the Pro entry in Settings to see the current annual subscription price in your App Store region. The purchase screen explains the duration and renewal terms. Pro unlocks the capabilities marked Pro, including full history, advanced statistics, tags, exports, more sounds, themes, and preset rules.
To restore, choose Settings → Restore Purchase or Restore Purchase on the purchase screen with the Apple Account that made the purchase. If it fails, check your connection and active subscription and retry. StoreKit may be unavailable temporarily.
Manage or cancel through iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → LumoFocus. Apple handles billing and refund requests. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. Expired Pro access restricts premium features; it does not itself delete saved records.
12. Troubleshooting and support
If a record cannot be saved or an export fails, check available device storage and retry. Do not delete the app as a first troubleshooting step: local records may be lost. We cannot retrieve records from your device. Review Apple-managed backups separately.
